Intel was supposed to launch their new high end enthusiast x48 chipset in January but the rumored release date had been pushed back a couple months to a mid-March time frame. Havok, now owned by Intel, is one of the leading providers of physics APIs for games and applications and is now planning to offer it for free for non-commercial use and to “approved game developers on the PC platform” starting in March. Nvidia’s Geforce 9600GT cards have shown up in stores for as little as $179.90. Both cards with stock clock speeds and overclocked models are available now. The performance level of the GF 9600GT is slightly faster than the GF 8800GS and slightly slower than the GF 8800GT in most benchmarks, so for the price point is definitely worth a look.
