AMD/ATI announces new R680, RV620, RV635 Graphics Cores

While they haven’t relased full specs yet, some interesting things did get exposed. The most interesting info is that the R680 will be targeted at the high end enthusiast segment and will contain two GPU cores that are “essentially two RV670 GPU cores on the same board, though the company did confirm that each core has the same specifications of an RV670 processor,” according to DailyTech. The RV670 core is what the current Radeon HD 3870/3850 cards are based on. They went on to say that the RV620 and RV635 GPU cores are basically just a die shrink to 55nm on the s RV610 and RV630 processors, which are the Radeon HD 2400 and 2600 respectively. The R680 GPUs will aslo be manufactured on a 55nm process. The expected launch date is some time in January.
